Cases & Lacambra appoints Manuel Álvarez as the new Global Director of Regulatory Compliance. This strategic hire aims to strengthen the Firm’s governance in response to the sustained growth it has experienced in recent years and the challenges ahead.
With this appointment, Cases & Lacambra continues its trajectory of expansion and consolidation in the market, reaffirming its position as a firm with a solid yet agile and efficient structure to ensure the highest standards across all its operations. The new director will have full operational independence, reporting directly to the Board of Directors.
With over 20 years of experience in the sector and extensive knowledge of international regulatory frameworks, Álvarez will provide a strategic and robust approach to ensuring comprehensive regulatory compliance across all jurisdictions in which the Firm operates, as well as aligning processes with the needs of major institutional clients.
“Although we are a compact firm, the range of our clients is very broad, and our matters are increasingly complex. We serve the entire spectrum of institutional clients, including asset managers, investment funds, and private family offices. This broad range, along with the fact that we operate in three jurisdictions and interact with more than 40 others, means that we must be very organized and committed to transparency, the robustness of our processes, and our Corporate Governance structure”, commented Miguel Cases, Executive Chairman of the Firm. “Manuel’s appointment to Cases & Lacambra strengthens our capacity to manage regulatory challenges and ensure compliance in an increasingly complex environment”, added Ernesto Lacambra, Managing Director.
Álvarez holds a law degree from Pompeu Fabra University, where he also pursued doctoral studies in Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences. His professional career has focused on active and preventive corporate criminal defense. Throughout his career, Manuel has advised on the design, implementation, and updating of ethics and compliance programs, conducted internal investigations, and represented companies and executives in complex criminal proceedings.
Before joining Cases & Lacambra, Manuel spent two decades at the law firm Uría Menéndez.
Additionally, Manuel has combined his professional activities with teaching, having been a visiting professor in criminal law, economic criminal law, and criminal litigation at UOC, ISDE, ESADE, the University of Barcelona, and the Barcelona Bar Association.
